Looking to upgrade to a quick disconnect steering wheel. I don't have tilt and egress is tough at times.

Anyone have guidance, links or recommendations?

Thanks!!

I bought mine from Griggs, but it appears to be the exact same thing that Coleman sells and about 1/3 the price.

Will this attach to a factory steering column? Tilt?

as long as you have a welder...

Here is the link for Pegasus Auto Racing where I got mine. I asked a few people and the said the "sleve" disconnect is much easier to work than the "push-pin".
I have had mine sitting in my garage for 1/2 a year b/c I am too lazy to install the non-tilt steering column.
That'll give me something to do in the off-season. 8)

The one that I have is sleeved and also splined. It looks like the photo from Pegasus, but not a Hex its splined.

something to consider between hex and splined.
Hex will be easier to get the wheel lined up each and every time, however the splined will 'lock' together better to reduce the amount of steering slack/looseness/freeplay the hex setup might have. Mine is hex and it has ever so slightly left-n-right freeplay.
also get the sleeve or pull type release and skip the pin type.

I have the hex fr pegasus and don't recommend.
I have a friend with the same and he wouldnt recommend.
The momo one on Boudy's car is the one to get.
Easy on/off and self centering. Throw the wheel on in any orientation. It clicks into place. Then spin the wheel to get it to the one and only position it will lock to and it locks.

Very neet.

Yeah, I've have the hex w/pin and the splined w/ring release. I like my new one best. I found a knock off of an expensive one on ebay. I'll find it and post a link.

Here is the unit I bought and this guy shipped fast. NRG is $99 and this unit is $20. I also wanted a spacer and this unit gave me about 2.5".

I'll get some pics of mine installed in the morning. Sorry, it's at the shop spending the night on jack stands.

All the information is greatly appreciated.

Boudy, is there any welding involved with the one you purchased?

Donovan, do you have a pic of where you had to weld?

Thx again to all that posted!!

On CMC #8 we had to weld the spline onto the steering shaft.

I was a little (a lot) uncomfortable with that. But, in reality, it was no big deal.

We made a small rossette weld at the very end so that it could be ground off if need be. And we had to at Houston last year.

Again, it was NBD

EV, take notes for me will ya? I'd like to get one of these installed as well although I'm sure the SN95 will be completely different for no good reason lol. Thanks!

The black part is a steering boss for the MOMO steering wheel. It came with the car and bolts on in the factory configuration. The silver part is the release and it has got hole patterns to match the MOMO pattern. No welding required.

I also like that it has full horn capability so I will be wiring my radio PTT into the horn button.

How far out does the adapter extend the steering wheel over the stock configuration? Since my column doesn't have tilt, I wonder if adding the adapter + disconnect will put it up too high and back to close to the driver.

I remember driving Boudy's car at TWS around the pits but don't remember how far the wheel was in relation to the stock position. I knew the seat was up farther than what I would have in a normal configuration. So, I probably didn't think about it a whole lot.

Ok, so the components needed would be the quick disconnect + the adapter. Anyone know if the Momo pattern is the same as a Grant wheel?

Thx!

This adapter hub will also fit most 6 lug steering wheels [ Sparco, OMP and many others...] with a bolt pattern of 2.75 inches or 70mm.

The first picture is exactly what I see through the windshield. It's not too high because I see hood above it. There is 4 inches between the wheel and the base of the hub and 5.5 inches between the wheel and the dash.

schweet!! Thx for the pics, Boudy! I will measure my current wheel to dash/hub to get an idea of the difference there might be when installing the adapter + disconnect.

Awesome info!!!

Thx David F. I think my current wheel will work, but won't know until the hub and disconnect arrive this Friday or Monday.

Thx again!!!

Boudreaux,
what are you hiding behind the plywood in that one pic?
I see an arm holding the plywood.

Whassup at The Lab?

Nah, it's Corey and Gene holding the plywood. I wanted a solid background so that the edge of the hood could be seen clearly for reference.
