All right so I am running into a wall on this one. What I thought (the stupid move was thinking) would be a simple issue has me a bit perplexed. I thought my alternator was bad so I replaced it (another dumb move, not testing it). Slapped it on and then realized I am still not getting a charge.

Excited wire not plugged in it is putting out 7.4volts

With it plugged in it is putting out while idle is 3.1

While idle the exciter wire is putting out 11.7 volts

Everything shut off and the multi meter to the hot side and grounding it on the body I get 7volts.

Battery has worked its way down to 11.8 so I dropped it off to charge back up and pick it up in the morning. I thought about jumping from the hot to the plug but the hot wire only has around 7 volts anyways. If the resistor was out on. The excited wire then I would be getting 0 volts on it. At this point I am stuck.

I checked the ground, pulled both ends and ensured there was a good clean and solid connection.

I am hoping someone can provide some guidance so I am not just spectating next weekend.

Thanks

Sook

Had a similar issue. I tried pranav's method and it seemed to work. I have a couple alternator pig tails already wired up, i can bring them to houston.

Yeah as Josh mentioned you will want to wire the F wire straight to your ignition switch/source, and the S wire to a ring terminal hanging off the alternator output post.

If your pigtail isn't marked:

I think I have a pigtail too but figure you probably want to get this fixed at home; if you need to replace your pigtail quick up there oreillys will have it in stock, part BWD PT200.

You will also want to take the alternator off the car and have it tested at the parts store.

I'll pull my working, good alternator off the LT1 on the stand and throw it in the box in case you need it.

EDIT: Duh saw that you swapped alternators already

Thanks, hopefully there is no need but I will let you know if I do not get it sorted

Alright now I'm curious. Per my previous wiring unfvcking I know there is no resistor in the path of the alternator's regulator but there also is no idiot light as there is no factory cluster. Whatever I have has been flawless since my 2013 purchase so I feel obligated to contribute here.

The volt meter in the factory cluster is around 470 ohms if memory serves.

Ya sooo scratch that. The pig tail would probably be a good help

I believe you. My car only has 1 wire for the regulator though.
