As we are approaching the deadline for having functional cameras, I thought it'd be useful for folks to share the solution they're using. So...what camera do you have, what do you like/don't like and if you had to buy now would you get the same thing?

I was looking at the fly 360. Would it be possible to have NASA looking to possibly getting discounts? Takes video in 360° all the time. Way cool

I know it's expensive, but maybe NASA could get them on board?
Way better then GoPro! I have a GoPro 3 black and Silver and they are nothing but trouble!

The fly 360 video playback is really weird, I don't like it. My Gopro stopped being finicky when I reformatted the card. I'm open minded to a new rear camera, but my Gopro3 has treated me well so far so I may get the session as it's only $200.

I was very pleased with the Garmin Virb I tried this past weekend but didn't find time to really play with it. I got the base model with no Wifi and GPS so there wasn't much else to play with anyways; I also got the remote that has a feedback LED (flashes red while recording) so no guessing as to whether or not you are live:

I will be sending it back to get the Garmin Virb Elite for $37 more that has built in wifi and GPS. It has GPS based recording profiles so I don't have to manually hit the record button, and can also overlay data from external sensors if you want to mess with that. Going for the auto record and wifi as the SD card is inside the unit behind the battery so I'd like to avoid having to take it apart to get data every time.

GoPro 4 here. Does the job but you MUST be diligent about dumping the memory card each day and charging it between sessions. I have the stuff to hardwire it but haven't yet.

my $50 dash cam did well, set it and forget it, it just worked, no messing with hitting record etc, when it gets full it just overwrites the old stuff.

What's with the weird skips? Does it do like the GoPro and cut the vids off at a certain length forcing you to join them back together?

Yeah, I need to play with the settings to make the clips longer

Update on this, I made an adjustment in the software and the skips are now gone.

Seems like a reasonably priced addition/replacement for my old Hero2 which acted weird last time I used it. Everything outside the car was washed out horribly.

Tyler - is it fairly easy to get the video out of that camera, and onto your laptop? I've been thinking about putting that camera in my company trucks, for an inexpensive CYA.

Change the metering to spot to fix that
That being said, the big deal with a camera like this is the set it and forget it functionality, in addition the vid quality seems comparable to my hero2.

Yes sir, move the sd card, open the software and save the combined video.

iPhone 5 in front running Harry's LapTimer, go pro in rear. Ditching go pro and putting second iPhone 5. Phenomenal video, quick charging.

Anything new to report after a year of use?

I'm also interested in everyone's experience with their camera setup. The gopro thing is a PITA. If I remember to start it, I forget to stop it and get hours of footage in the paddock.

I’ve been using an IPhone 6 for while now. Harry’s is awesome! The only thing I’ve struggled with is finding a suitable mount that reduces vibration in the video

I've been happy with my $50 dash cam, it automagically records when it gets +12v power so you don't have to remember to turn it on, it's mostly zero maintenance.

I got a pair of sunglasses for Xmas that have a camera built into the nose bridge. I'll be testing them out at the kart track tomorrow night and will report back. Would be nice to be able to click the go button and slide them on and know the camera is on.

I ordered one of these: https://www.amazon.com/YI-1080P60-Dashboard-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B01C89GCHU/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1515702956&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=yi+dash+cam&psc=1

It's got a bunch of features that I'll probably disable. Ultimately I decided on this one due to it's cheap cost, view angle, and 1080@60fps. It should start/stop with car power which is the main feature I wanted.

I almost bought this camera with two positionable lenses, meaning I could do front/back with one camera potentially. I decided against this one because it was only 720@30fps.

Glasses were a bust karting. Great view when stopped but get blurry with speed...would be cool POV footage during a race but not something I'd want to try and defend contact with.

I watched a video of a guy driving around town with them and it was annoying. Camera moves every time driver's head moves, and that's not always voluntary.

This is something that I have wanted to do for a while. As slow as I am, the videos from inverts would be great.

I caved and bought a used gopro hero off craigslist today. My new data logger can send wifi start/stop commands to it, and my Garmin VIRB is just too flaky.

The starting and stopping is the only real issue I have with go pros. PITA if you can't reach is when belted in, or if you don't have something to start/stop it over wifi.

They are nice for sticking on the car in random spots for onesy twosy type filming, checking suspension on track, etc.

Yeah they make the wifi remote for it but I think it's expensive. This was a good deal, bunch of accessories/mounts I can use for snowboarding, came with a memory card and a wifi remote for a little more than an amazon camera would go for new.

I bought this remote for my hero 4. Another thing to keep charged at the track... But for $40 not bad.

Thanks for the heads up on this. With a 32g card and still under $50. If it does not work in the car then maybe I will put it in my work truck. I really like the fly360 too.
