View Full Version : AI #67 Parting Out thread...

All,
As you all know, I've had a really rough last 4-5 seasons with mechanical reliability. Over the past nine months specifically, the entire driveline and shock setup has been refreshed.

However, even with "all the good stuff", I still managed to mess up engine #3 since right before Christmas.

My time in AI (and Racing in general) is up... don't worry, I'm still going to remain the AI director and make all the events. For me, the weekends are 90% lending a helping hand, eating and drinking, and hanging out with the best group of folks on the planet.. and then 10% Racing. The Racing does not "light the fire" in me like it once did and I need to move on to other projects ('57 Chevy that I've had for the last 2 years that needs to get done and my 14 year old "oldest" expressed interest in a '65-'69 Mustang for his first car). If I want to complete those projects, Racing has to stop for the time being.

My tub started life in 2000 (to me at least) as a 4-cyl auto and transformed into what it is today in the last 17 years with it being an active race car since April-2004. Infact, TWS marked my "unlucky" 13th anniversary and Mike Patterson even looped my car in the carousel on its "maiden voyage" on track. LOL!!

Anyway, enough with the emotions and down to business.

Dang, it's really happening. Sad to see the car get taken apart.

I do want those wheels though. Do you know what the offset is? Happy to take all 8, can pick up at the next race, or sooner.

I haven't spoken to Daniel but consider this a "proxy dibs" for Daniel to take your A5 trans, he needs it.

They are +18mm or +38mm. Whichever one of those gives you more track width... I never learned what the numbers meant.

I'll bring them to COTA unless you want to drive rob DFW and I can meet you.

Very sad to see this happening.

I'm interested in the seat (listed with no details and not sure if I'd fit) and the ABS (not listed at all)...

Those wheels are not okay for CMC. If I remember they have to weigh 18lbs. But you can add weight to the center.

Tyler has the slick setup for the spacers... Of course, AI doesn't have that problem.

Keeping that in mind for sure, does the price go up with each podium finish?

This post makes me sad. Can't blame ya one bit for the decision but will really miss racing you. We've had some good ones over the years....on those rare occasions both our cars were running <sigh>. Glad you'll still be around to hang with at the track though. Best of luck with the sale and the other projects.

Sad to hear this but glad you're not gone.

Have fun finishing up those projects and hopping in Michael's car now and then. Maybe once you wrap up the projects and have a few years to recover, you can get yourself back into AI with a cheap S197 or something just as quick/easy to setup and roll!

Marshall.. very tough decisions, but you can always return later in a new car, different series, etc... Enjoy building that old Mustang with your son... it will be well worth it.

Richard,
At the moment, the ABS will transfer to the Type65 Cobra Daytona (3rd project in the line) and I want to keep the seat for the next car I end up building... :)
I will be back, just need to get some other stuff done in the interim.
