See the discussion here (ignoring the mantie hi-jack, of course) :

We're looking at this for Texas AI/CMC because of the huge communication benefits it offers pre, during and post race whenever there is an issue which needs your attention (at the very least to be able to remind people on grid whether it's a standing start or a rolling start! ) and keep our racers informed.

Contrary to the West Coast, we will NOT make in-car radios a requirement at the start of the 2007 season (less than a month away).
(An overwhelming majority of the Calif. CMC racers already use Argent Lab radios and their "infrastructure" is already in place.)

We encourage all to take advantage of this inexpensive (~$149) communication tool and we'll continue to evaluate the efficiency & effectiveness of the Texas AI/CMC safety broadcast. Once we are sure that all the "infrastructure" support is in place (i.e.- resources, announcer, radio protocols, etc) to consistently provide the service....only then will it become a requirement for the series.

For Texas...at the earliest, this radio requirement would likely not be until mid-season at Round 4.... at the latest we hope that it could be a requirement for the 2008 Texas AI/CMC season. (Al Fernandez will be a huge asset to have once he gets here to further assist establishing this program for us.)

I just wanted to give you guys/gals a heads up that it's being discussed and that we're working closely with Clifton, our Race Director, Argent Lab Radios and the folks at NASA TX to make it happen.
