PREFACE
Since this site has no blog, I have started this thread.
It is not ment to receive criticism or entice envy.
Only to inform of what I'm doing out in the garage.

It is my belief that preparation before hitting the track is about 50% of the equation.
Hence the term, cinch it up.

Road Atlanta was hard on brakes. Rotors are at O'Reallys getting turned.
Pads (Carbotech XP-10's) have a day or 2 left in 'em.

My fuel pump was singing at the end of Sundays race so it's down with the tank to get at it.
This involves dropping the rearend AND my 1 piece exhaust system.
I am finally engineering an access hole to facilitate easier pump changes in the future.

3rd gear was getting crunchy with the synchros so I ordered another 5th gear set from Astro. My present set is a PITA. The gear on the tail shaft is too big to be pressed on the shaft and then the shaft installed into the case. It wont fit thru the case hole. So, the shaft has to be in the case AND then pressed on the shaft. MAJOR pita. In order to get at my 3rd gear problem, you have to remove the tailshaft (in case you were wondering).

Yes, been on vaca all week following RA last week.
Had the car up Monday afternoon.
Shooting for "Pit Happens" on Mother's day.
More later,

jeffburch

No Al, no quick disconnect. Needs a flush anyways.

Gas tank access hole is done, awaiting new pump.
New seat arrived finally. 9weeks for a custom seat from Ultrashield.
I can't believe I raced almost 2 years in a Junior seat from Sparco

Nice seat JB.

I just took my car off of stands this weekend and declared it ready for TWS....except for I need a couple of new tires and mount them.

I also have to redyno, since I changed out my valve springs. Hope to redyno this week or next and hope I found some of my lost torque.

Jeff,

If you go with a Painfull wiring harness be sure to get the one with extra length. I'm sure you already know this but I did not and mine was a bitch to install. The extra length would have been great.

No Painfull stuff.
WAY to much money.
I'm a wire guy by trade and am doing Tefzel milspec wire and recrimping all new connectors.
Klixon circuit breakers/switches. Bosch relays and a new guage/switch panal. No more electrical DNF's for me hopefully  .

Stripping the many coats of rattlecan inside is the fun part.

Troy, I have some tires and supper for you if you wanna get dirty  .
Just got a gallon of Jasco paint stripper this morning when I had 6 tires dismounted.

Very cool... I'm gonna do something similar cuz my car sits so low... why are you getting rid of SFCs? don't they prevent twisting? I have some monster 2 by 4 tubing for SFCs and I would love to get rid of them to reroute exhaust but thought they were necessary...

Natural with black engraving fill or,
Black/white powder coat or,
Black anodize with white fill.
I'm thinking black paint then fill with white.
Frontpanelexpress does black anodize with white powder fill.
Clearcoat final coat.
My DAQ diaplay will go in the upper blank area.

So a catalyzed Auto paint? I am getting ready to paint the inside of my car soon and can't decide what color I want to use. I don't really want to do white like the rest of you guys have and I am tired of silver. I would like to do black so dirt doesn't show but that white does look great!

Black shows the most dirt IMO.
Plus it's hotter-n-hell.
Omni MTK single stage from English Color.
$115/gal not including catalyst and reducer.
Already have a blue, red, silver and a 2 black Camaros in Tx.
I wanted white interior for temperture. Doing exterior in it by default.
Maybe Hugger Orange accents, dunno. Hadn't given it much thought other than what was cheap.

Are you concerned about any glare inside the windshield? I had to start blacking a few things out because they were visible on the inside of the windshield. Add to the fact there is a TON of greasy crap on the inside from nationals and the rain, and my 2 year old lexan windshield looks like crap....and Shields tells me that it is at the end of it's life! Won't be buying that shit again. I have a few weeks to figure it out as I have a LOT of work to do inside the car. I am considering redoing a portion of the cage I never liked too as well as some metal clean up. Taking this year off is going to finally let me do the car right.

I suppose it's legal, but that is not the issue. Steel braided lines have a lot of compliance under pressure compared to hard lines. If you use too much of it, you could end up with a soft pedal. I knew a guy once who bought a Cobra Replicar setup up for road racing, the entire brake system was plumbed in steel braided lines. The car was unstoppable - in a bad way. He had to replumb the brakes.

If that is the only extra steel braided you added, you should be ok.

Just want you to be safe.

jeff - the only thing i see wrong w/ your panel (it looks nice though) is the lack of a stiffing rib of some sort. i'd be worried about it flexing and vibrating at speed. something a simple as a rolled bead or a break in the vertical direction would eliminate it.

I got rid of the huge tach/shift lite in leu of the little digital style that JW has.
Initially I plan to clamp it around the steering column as normal.
It has setup buttons on the shell that must me accessible, damnit.
I am engineering a mount to put it in the center A/C vent tho.

Yeah, but let's say she nerfs you and it gets pinched off but could still run and finish the race...but your fuse is blown and you are out of the race. If there is one thing I have learned after letting TWO regional championships slip through my fingers is that you MUST finish ALL the races so you aren't dropping ZERO's... Why? I can shift like a God! LOL!

The fluid hasn't even changed color. I opened the fill plug after nationals and the fluid looks perfect. No reason for this tranny to have ANY problems considering it's built for 700hp... Also take into account a T56 holds nearly 2 quarts more than any of the other common trans in this series and fluid is not an issue.

Considering all the problems I have seen with T5 based trannies over the years...you can keep em' for an extra 30lbs. And trust me, this car is closer to weight than it has ever been, if not a little under right now. I tallied up 54lbs as of this morning that won't be getting hauled around anymore. So why aren't you using new rotor sections from instead of off the shelf parts?

The Coleman rings only lasted ~2 seasons. They cracked at BMP in Oct 2006, IIRC. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of using the Coleman rotors if they don't last very long. It's possible I didn't season them correctly.

Cost to replace is $300 a pair. The CV rotors are only ~$90 a pair.

Once I finish selling a bunch of my stuff, I'll try another set of Colemans, and do a better job seasoning them.

I was going to call you and see how everything has been going but I had the wife and daughter with me and we were just passing through.. you look like you have been really busy with the car. Tell Bev I said hello and I will call you later.

The actor was a peter puffer....the character molested young boys and hobits! LOL!!!

Jeff, the car looks great! However, I hope you don't tire of the "plainess" as I have with my solid silver POS...

Mr. Clean!

Have I told you that white cars are piggy-er than those that are faster?

FIXED

Guess the black/red Varvini marks are on the front, huh, Liebbe?

Anyway, great job JB. I love the look. Reminds me of the old IROC racecars with monochromatic paint.

The yellow Corey mark must be down the entire passenger side.

Corey Who?

And Todd, cars that are faster than Burch bump him from behind, those that are slower get their paint on his front bumper. It's a Physics thing.

DO NOT bring up the name Cory to Jason... I have NEVER seen him this pissed off at anyone... if you look at the thumbnail photos from the lemon penalties, Jason is in the one where the judge is leaning in the car... Jay would barely spoke, just sat there

Judge: "Well, what did you do?"

Jay: "I dunno"

Judge: "Why did they black flag you?"

Jay: "I dunno"

Judge walked away, Jay gets out of car, I walk up and ask "Whad ya do?", answer "F@CK CORY", I walk away
