Having been where you are now... I went with a used suit (double layer), shoes and helmet bought on RacingJunk. I bought some economy gloves at Smiley's along with my DeFnder H&N restraint (which I LOVE). I've used the DeFnder for a year now and it is the most comfortable one I've tried on. It doesn't press on the collar bone the way the HANS does and it captures the shoulder belts so they don't want to slide off. They've come down in price another $50 since I bought mine too. Just some suggestions for the budget minded entry safety equipment.
