Both Dudes in one thread!!!
I love it!!!
I missed the fun at Hallett with you guys but the times at Mid-Ohio were a blast! Nothin' like a good prison tour for the AI/CMC guys, huh RayBob/Tommy!
-=- T
Sorry to miss this most kick-assed event, Lisa. We'll actually be in Austin from 1-14 May.
You guys have fun - no rub'n, Raybob!! ;)

It doesn't look good for me to attend the "Mother" of events, Raybob.
Seems like every year that Hallett comes up, no matter who's running it, my plate is way too full to make the trip.
This year my parents will be in town and I'll have important kid stuff to attend to. If something changes I'm there sooo fast, but right now...don't look good.

Hey Texas Dudes,
Hide the women and children the RM region is a comin your way.
I am signed up and getting amped to race and hang out with the Texas speedsters. If Chris is any indication you guys must be ok.
Just a couple of questions....
1. where is the first turn?
2 what's the track record?
Cody,
It looks like the Texas Dudes are all scared of us. Lots of them just ain't gonna show up.
Must be all that sensitivity training we've been goin to!
I feel so sensitive!!! 8)
Turn one is the 1st one after the go flag.
I dunno about the record. :P

PIT HAPPENS SCHEDULE!

ok, so what is the best way to get to the track? at TWS someone (GL, JB?) mentioned a short cut (avoiding tulsa or some such thing).
details? Coming from Austin I assume 35E is the standard route... I hate going through Dallas
md
never been to Hallett
35(E or W) to OKC. take 44 east to Tulsa. take and follow 99 north. 99 is @ Starns and ?????, cant remember, just go north.
There are two ways from Dallas. I live in Carrollton and I take the 75/69 eastern route. People think it is longer but not much. From my house the I35 route is 307 miles, the 75/69 route is 318 miles. Friday rush hour in OKC can be bad, rush hour in Tulsa is not bad at all.

When will you be coming through the DFW area?Quote:

The town of Jennings is a couple miles south of the track.
Coming from Austin I would do 35W thru Ft. Worth.
In OKC do I44E aka Turner Turnpike.
Don't do the Cimmeron.
On the Turner get off at the McDonalds at Stroud. Go north thru Drumright up thru Jennings. Road is a little narrow but is the way to go from OKC.
Glad to here your making it Morgan.
Should be a fun weekend.
jb
Thanks guys for all the replies.
Actually I've taken the 75/69 route before last time I went to St. Louis. Very nice route if you want the scenic way, which we did. I think there would be way too many small towns with slow downs & stops on the way when pulling a rig. Right now I believe I'll follow JB's directions. I prefer the smothest shot w/ the least amt of stops. Although Mitch's planned route doesn't sound bad either.
Anything to lookout for such as land marks, strange roads, etc when trying to spot the road leading to the track?
I'm looking forward to the event. I *plan* on leaving some time Thursday before 11am so as to miss DFW rush our and hit hallett before night fall. I drive really really slow w/ my old rig (as a side note, fuel prices suck with the old 454). It is gonna be a long drive.
I'll be out there for Friday's run sessions as well.
North of Jennings, you'll be curving to the left and uphill. Armco barriers to protect severe slopeing shoulder drop offs. There is signage for the road to the track (which is to the left). But by the time you read it's too late if going too fast. If you make it to the Cimmeron Turnpike you went too far.
BTW, it's worth the drive hehe.
jb
i fully expect to see lap times from the CMC guys better than the 1:29.6xx JB posted way back in '06. w/ the new surface, sould be some added grip and smoother braking zones.
i look forward to the post race comentary.
you guys have fun and be safe and dont let those "2 Dudes" pick on ya too much. i really wish i was going, but my plate is just way to full right now. and i'm not sure how i'm going to get to Nationals this year money wise, so i have had to cut stuff out where ever i can.
i hope this is the 1st annual of many more to come.
From my experience, the fastest way to Hallett is I-35 North to I-44 East ( Turner Turnpike, towards Tulsa ), exit Stroud, take the 99 North....just as JB describes. Track will be on your left side, just before the Cimarron Turnpike. From my house, I've done the trip in 4 hours.
The 99 is a bit narrow ( one lane each way ), but you can really cruise thru there.
Don't follow Bud's directions - he's on crack. ;)
Have a great weekend guys...wish I could go.
I sure wished I could afford to go..... right now I don't have a tranny anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.
But you that go have a great time and keep off those pesky tire barriers.
I hope to make the SECOND Annual Rueth Racing Extravaganza. :D
Say what you will Adam, if you live between 75 and 35 both ways are about the same. The Indian Nation Tpk has a 75 mph limit and you can do 80 without a fear of a ticket.
Can anyone bring an old set of belts for my passenger seat?

Made it home ... finally!
Saturday was a bad day. Lots of contact and some carnage.
A driver missed a shift exiting The bitch and I didn't. It was a hard lick.
It moved my impact beam back to the lower core support, squeezing off all air flow to the radiator.
Using a come-a-long, a big Donovan hammer and a Rueth welder, I had something that resembled a nose back on the car after a couple hours wrasslin' with it.
However, the car never did cool as well as it did on Friday. so ...
Sunday was a totally different story. Clean racing from everyone as far as I know.
I was driving 11/10s just trying to stay up with Jeff. He was just toying with me though ... giving me false hope, I'm sure. When my car reached 235 on coolant, I pedaled back in an effort to race another day. And on the last 2 laps, it was sputtering a bit coming out of 6.
R2 standing start I got a good jump and raced Corey hard for a couple laps. But, Corey the sly fox, used an out of class car to screw my line and he motored off into the sunset.
Late in the day, someone said my transponder wasn't working and hadn't the whole day. I never saw a time sheet. Can someone confirm this please?
Corey and Lisa along with the great gang at Hallett put on a great show. I was impressed with how smoothly it ran. Saturday was a bit out of control, but it all got reeled in on Sunday and made up for it.
The mom's were pampered and well cared for. Bev made a freezer of ice cream each day, Holly and Stephanie tried their best to corrupt my wife, but I rebooted her OS on the way home.
The Colorado guys was a hoot! Lots of nice cars ... and I think I finally met someone who spins more often than Adam. ;) It was great to see Chris McCoomb once again. A really great guy. Thanks for all your help Saturday evening.
Finally thanks to Argent Labs for making this weekend possible. You are the man.
YEAH, DEFINATELY A FUN WEEKEND
We finally made it home...
Corey and the Gang, are stuck just outside of OK City... He called me when I was in Ft Worth and said his truck blew another EGR cooler and sucked in coolant, hydro-locked the engine...
They were close to a hotel and were going to pack it in for the night and see about getting the truck to a dealer in the morning.
Holly and I had a great weekend. The old trusty #7 ran great all weekend as I pushed it hard every lap, I never let up from green to checkered flag for every race session. Fun stuff.
It was great hanging out with everyone and seeing the dudes from Colorado. Good times!
Corey and Lisa put on a great weekend!!!
Also, I would like to thank Argent Labs for being a great sponsor of the event, I will get some great use out of the race radios, I can't wait to use them in my car!!! Thanks again!
David D.
Where do I sign up for next year?!
My neck/shoulders are pretty sore from all the track time.
Thank you Rueth Racing and Robert Boudreaux!

What a great weekend of racing, I had a blast getting my butt kicked by some really cool Texas dudes. Now I get why you guys are so fast, you are all reeeaaally fast and that just makes you all better.
Many thanks to Corey and Lisa for putting this together you are a class act.
And to Boudy for the support of the event.
I will for sure be there next year(just don't put it on Mothers day).

Cody, it was great meeting you and the others again this year. I will be there again next year for sure!!!
I want to give Raybob a third shot at beating me there...
I'm 2-0 so far!!! 8)

Wow, what a full weekend. Here is my long winded, foggy account of what went on from my viewpoint:
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...
I arrived 8pm Thursday to a great sunset after sloshing through a rain storm on I-44 E of Okie City. I was greated by two corner workers, a father and son duo, scott, and a 50lb turtle up at the covered spots. No other racers were to be found except for a Legends guy around the corner and down the hill somewhere.
I ran 4 sessions on Friday burning up around 20 gallons in fuel, I guess you could say I got my moneys worth for the bargain $95 Friday entry fee. There were probably no more than 10 cars on track total for most of that day. Some time that morning Lisa (#13L) found a 1lb box turtle which was affectionately named Buford T. Hallett, and appropriately placed in a box and kept all weekend as a mascot. Disappointingly though, even after much discussion the turtle races for the weekend never occurred. I was guaranteed a podium spot with B.T.H. as a ringer.
On Saturday while coming in from the 2nd practice session I noticed a really bad exhaust manifold sound from the car. Upon closer inspection it looked as if it might be a valve train issue. Dr. Doolittle (D Donovan) waltzes up, turns an ear toward the offending passenger valve cover, has a quick, indiscernible conversation with the ‘bird and proclaims it to be a broken rocker arm stud or loose rocker. After pulling the belt & alternator (required on LT1s), and valve cover it became clear the #8 intake rocker was listing off to the side. The top of the self-locking rocker arm NUT had broken allowing it to back off thereby loosening the rocker. We checked the rocker, pushrod and stud and all was ok. I ran around the pits for about 10 minutes only to discover with all the GM boys showing up no one had a spare rocker nut. #13 had run down to the track shop and found a couple Grade-8 speed nuts that would fit. After much lamenting we decided it was best to just use both of those nuts, locking them both securely in place. At this point the call was made for Qual. I tried to get the car back together but there was no way I was gonna make it. I started DFL for R1.
R1 was fun, did some battling with #9 that left #95 a little thinner on the left side quarter & a little darker on the left side door. We both decided to occupy the same time-space coordinates going up the hill to Turn-4. Everyone knows that’s a major violation and asthetic damage ensued.
Holy heck did I have to battle #55 all weekend. R1 was just the start. We both made major mistakes and swapped positions more times than honeymooners on the big night. I earned a nice big donut on the LF fender when I stuck the nose in as Mr. Radio got loose in a corner too. Finished 5th on that one I think.
R2 wasn’t as much fun. The main highlight is I became “The meat in a mustang sandwich”. Going into The Bus Stop (T2) #13 decides to take an inside look by way of late braking…. Very late braking. Errr, too late braking. He over shoots the corner to the inside as we turn the corner comes back on to track facing the wrong way. Danger Will Robinson, Danger! The inevitable happened as we team mates did our best imitation of Eskimo Kisses while Boudy crashes the party bringing up the rear. Much hand waving, fist pumping, finger pointing, and yelling took place in the following 2 seconds. Worked my way to a 3rd place in that race. Again that darn Black & White gave me fits. The visiting #22 from CO also put up a good showing & did well with a 2nd place. The beautiful #95 was no more. Hood LF was bent, headlight cover was mangled, bumper cover had a big ol’ slice about 2’ long, The nose support smashed (again!), and some underlying corner metal relocated. Thankfully no damage to frame rails, oil cooler, or radiator. It looked real ugly. The rear cover had a minor tear and didn’t quite line up as it should as well as the trailing edge of the LR quarter near the tail light looked to be rolled under some. I did my best arts & crafts work taping the cover back up and straightening the metal for the next day. I wasn’t happy.
Sunday was a little better. However, at the start of the 1st hot lap in the qual session I heard a grinding noise from the right side. I nursed it around and into the pits. After pulling off the RR tire #13 spotted a missing caliper mount bolt. He found a replacement in his stash of Secret Mustang Bolts box. EGADS! I can’t believe I have a Mustang part on my car. It apparently helped. I started DFL, again, as I didn’t get a qual lap in.
It was a beautiful start for R3 as I picked off 2 CO guys by the 1st corner, and got the 3rd by the time we came back around to Start/Finish. #13 unknowingly had throttle body problems reducing him to Driving-Miss-Daisy speeds allowing an easy pass on lap 4. Off in the distance I see that dang #55 again. How long is this race? I try to hit all my marks to reel him in. Slowly the distance closed. I kept studying the flag stand hoping for yet another lap. Finally on lap 8 I monopolize on a mistake and took P3 from #55. Just up ahead I see the sole LAW representative as he concentrates on staying with #3. Again I am reduced to just hitting my marks and pleading with the flag man for yet another lap. After 4 laps I eventually catch #9 and camp out behind his bumper looking for an opportunity. Finally the flag man gives me the finger. You know, for 1 to go. I’m work as hard as I can just to take the fastest line and get an opening. The race is almost over for God’s sake. I finally find it as Mitch scrubs off too much speed defending and P2 is mine. With half a lap to go I hold him off and keep it.
Man, that was a great race. Probably the best performance of my career, and the most memorable behind the night race at MSR-H back in early ’06.
R4 had great potential. Old #3 decided to forfeit his pole position start in favor of a more challenging DFL try. I tried to hang with AI #7 as he feathered the throttle for entertainment but in the end #13 and eventually #3 both took me and I drop to P3 for the final finish.
It was a great weekend. I’m very happy I attended. You an add me to the list of TX folks that proclaim Hallett as their favorite track. I’m glad to finally meet and race ALL of the CO boys.
Thanks Rueth Racing (except for R2! ), Scott & the Hallett crew, and all the other sponsors.
Made it back to Colorado Springs today - we took it easy and stayed in Salina on Sunday night. Total miles: 2370.5.
But this total doesn't include the many miles around Hallett, with a great bunch of folks. It was super to see all the Texas and Colorado drivers, and to finally get to run Hallett. What a hoot!
Big kudos to Corey and Lisa, Boudy and the entire crew at Hallett.
Had a blast in R3 with Corey, and Mitch & Boudy in R4.
And Morgan: put a lid on the "Driving Miss Daisy" cracks. That's all the juice my orange car has, and it was barely enough to keep up with Corey in R3. :x
Looking forward to Pit Happens II, and seeing everyone again down the road.
-chris
Wow! Great write up Morgan.
First off, "Sorry Mitch." For those of you who don't know, my limping tranny jumped out of 3rd exiting the Biatch. Then, I hurridly stabbed it into 1st (aarrrgggg!) and had to go fishing for 2nd. Right about that time, Mr. Warren comes knocking on my rear. Sorry again dude.
I finished 4th in R1, R2, and R3 when my laptimes should have given me a couple podiums. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes. Oh, and that damn red car... Geese! All Morgan did was sit back there and wait for me to goof and take advantage of it.
I was forced to run R4 in 3rd gear when my shifter went south in L2. However, I was pretty pleased running 1.33's in 3rd gear.
All in all it was a great weekend and I thank everyone who hosted and participated. It was great. Jordan even drove for the first time and now she'll be completly unbearable to live with. I asked her to see her 3rd place powder puff medal and she said, "NO, go win your own. Oh, wait, you can't."(while laughing as if she was funny) A monster has been created.
Congradulations to David Donovan for winning the Argent Lab radio package with the most consistant lap times and to Jeff Burch who piloted the Argent Lab #3 to a clean sweep weekend.
Boudy
Morgan, Great write up!!! :D
I just watched my in-car... Uhhm... I was in the right place at the right time, I got that on video somehow, and after I pass, you can see the 'slight' dent in MW's nose in my rearview.Quote:

Very good folks indeed.
Sheesh...tough breaks!
Gotta be tiring after wrenching on the car for a week...runnin' an event and then having to deal with commute troubles on the scale of Team Warhorse!!!
