Are you sure there isn't a mis-read here...? I had fun talking to Dave during the weekend and even had some good clean racing with him on Sunday....seemed like a Great guy?!Quote:

It was a fantastic event. Group A was, without a doubt, the best group of racers with the fewest on-track incidents. Only 1 penalty was handed out for a driving infraction (on Sunday), and there was not a single bent car, even with the lousy weather (Group A always seemed to get rained on the most).
Everyone got along very well. Yes, there were some heated words in the tech shed after Sunday's race, but we kept a lid on it.
Hell, it was a National event afterall!
I guess our definitions of drama are quite different.Quote:

BUT if these are legal, who makes them? ;)
A company that makes them for AI cars.... ;)Quote:

????
the problem is w/ the wording. most folks looked at the intent and the known understanding of the word and built around that.
the rule as written says "overall outline". in that sence it includes the widest part of the car - most often the side mirrors. i have been assured this loophole will be fixed and and these wings will not be legal next year. the intent was the widest part of the car under the wing when viewed from above.
the fuel issue will be resolved too. expect pumps found at race tracks to be excluded from this "pump gas" definition. my guess is 94 will be the highest legal octain.
Let me explain the "wing-thing".
The 2008 CMC rules state:
The key words are "overall outline of the body". Granted, it does say "when viewed from above". IMO, they are outside the "spirit and intent" of CMC, but the wording doesn't really support that.....and I did not want to go down a "subjective" path at the Nats.Quote:

Excluding endplates, the spoiler shall not be any taller than 11” from the deck of the car. The spoiler must fit securely with minimum modifications to the body and not significantly obstruct the driver's vision.
As such, the interpretation was total overall outline of the body - including the back fenders. After some discussions at the Nats, they were deemed legal, but you can expect a rewrite in 2009.
Sorry, dead horse and all I know, but I can't help it;
If a rewrite is going to happen for next year anyway, why not clarify the rule to make it so CMC must use an OEM part? If the only issue is the Cobra R wing, then specifically call it out as not allowed...
Sorry, I'll stop again now...
We went into the tech tent to check this out....wowsers. They pulled a center section, axles, front coil overs, cams, etc.Quote:

Mitch - you are 100% wrong, and speaking about things you do not know first hand.Quote:

Honestly - it wasn't that difficult, as our group was great to work with.Quote:

for once i'll agree w/ Adam here. a debatable issue that arose for any given day didnt result in the only thing i remember from that day. off all the crap i was involved in, the time w/ folks i normally dont hang w/ at the track is the most memorable.
so just because alot of folks didnt like the wings and didnt like the fact that the rule was changed that created a loop hole that allowed them doesnt mean we all dwelled on this topic all day. it was one of many pages of a chapter that make up the book of CMC Nationals 2008.
As long as I don't get lumped in with that BJ guy... ;)Quote:

threw together a gallery of shots for the sr editor of Engine Builder magazine today. He said that for sure some will be used for a spread and possibly on the cover.
http://www.corndesignsphotography.com/ebm/ - i'm using a new program for workflow and the gallery it made isnt the most user friendly. mouseover on the right side of the big pic and it'll give you an arrow to navigate through the rest.
Glenn I know you want the pic of you and all the OU chicks, but unfortunatly I dont own those so I cant post any of them yet. Will let ya know.
Wow! Just starting to look around, as always, you have some great shots in there.Quote:

Brooks needs to expand the sig size first.
Guess who will be on the cover of Engine Builder magazine soon in one of Corn's pics! Congrats MFW! It's the pic where MFW is chasing down the fox coming up the hill. Bob Denton's car will be pictured in the mag as well. The issue will be released in time for Engine Builder to take it to SEMA.
SWEET!!!!! Matts head will be bigger than mine for sure now.
Misty, kick Corn in the ass and have him send me that pic. i want to blow it up and cover the rear of my trailer door w/ it.
