1.8 pfttt
We could run it on pit bikes.
Racing the 1.8 would suck.
I'm curious why people think this? When I started doing track events, the TWS 1.8 was all there was. (Really - MSRH, MSRC, Eagles, COTA, NOLA, Harris Hill, Grand Sport, etc. didn't exist). People used to race it both clockwise and counterclockwise. I've watched a bunch of SCCA racing on the 1.8 and I thought it was great racing. For driving, I would prefer the 2.9 but I've had lots of fun on the 1.8. My list of events shows I did 13 events on the 1.8 before the 2.9 was put back in service. I also did a Driver's Edge event a couple of years ago that did 4 course configurations in a single weekend including the 1.8 CW and CCW.
The same racing vs. driving is true for other tracks. I've driven TMS. Holly crap, that is a terrible track to drive. A bunch of u-turns and completely annihilated brakes. But I've heard multiple people say the racing/passing there is great. Sounds like we might get to find out next year...
COTA is a spectacular track to drive. From the stands, the racing wasn't so hot. I actually think the short course at COTA would be much better racing. I had fun driving NOLA but the racing isn't so hot.
Anyway, I like doing different tracks and different configurations. For most of you, this will probably the only chance to say you raced on the 1.8. If you like it, great. If not, you probably won't have to do it ever again...

I raced on it once at night. That's good enough for me.
I agree with Richard except for COTA. Not a fun track to drive IMHO. I have never driven the 1.8 so I can't really say if I like it or not. I would rather run the 2.9 then have them tear up the track but I guess we don't get a vote.

I have done a DE on the 1.8 and it sucked.
Maybe we could do a Cannonball including Burnet-Marble Falls-Kingsland-Llano-Enchanted Rock-Fredericksburg-Kerrville-Medina-Vanderpool-Utopia-Tarpley-Bandera-Beorne etc. that weekend instead. I know it is not a complete loop, but you get the idea.
If by chance we get word that TWS decides to close early because other organizations bailed on the 1.8 (like Jerry mentioned) after August, I would not be butthurt.
However, as long as NASA still has the event planned here I am committed to running.
If not I could definitely use the time off; decided to hold off on my massive oil pan swap + trans tunnel/floor repair/patch project until after MSRH, but will want to do it before TWS as that is where it is most likely to get curbed again.
Everyone check your email and respond to Will's survey about whether or not you want to attend this event.
I have no idea how to respond. I have never ran the 1.8 but I take what James says as gospel so I doubt I will enjoy it. Since Jay and I are skipping MSRH if the TWS event happens we need to go for season points. Sickening that our last time at TWS can't be a great time running the 2.9!

I responded Yes, but between the game day hotel/traffic and 1.8 I would not at all be butthurt about a cancellation.
Gives me more time to improve the car this winter and would rather use that track time to test elsewhere.
I responded no.
Change it from TWS to Hallett and I would be game.

I need to check with the TT head honcho, but I'm contemplating running in time trials *IF* I can take passengers.
Speaking of, does anyone have a spare passenger seat I can buy/borrow? If it fits an F-Body, even better.
I'll be there as long as I don't have another engine out after msrh, I answered yes.
Responded "Yes".
I have never run the 1.8 and it looks like this will be the one and only chance for me to race it.
As of 1-Sep-17, the TWS event has been cancelled. Once I know more, I'll let you guys know.
Thanks for the info. Marshall. I'll need a refund for the garage spot I reserved.
Anyone know the status on MSR Houston? Curious if it is underwater or has any damage?
Not sure on the condition of MSRH but if the event is a Go, I would strongly encourage those that were planning on skipping MSRH to reconsider. "If" MSRH is the last event of the year, it will end up being the only event run in a 7 month period from July - Jan.
I petition to rename The Launch to The Boat Launch.
