    Houston area Auto Trans shop?

Looking for a transmission shop in the Houston area to take my GMC 2500HD to.
It's not broke yet, but it seems like something is slipping and I know nothing about autos. For example, backing up my parents driveway, not unusually steep, it won't even hold and will roll forward when in reverse. At idle in drive on a flat road, it doesn't quite go like the Ranger (granted the weight is a bit more).

Bought the truck wik 97000, now has 106000 so I don't know what previous maintinence has been done. I plan on at least having someone do a drain and fill, change the filter?, but would really prefer someone who knows what warning signs to look for instead of an NTB or such.

    Thanks
    - Gary R.

You might call Latemodel Racecraft where we had our dyno day this year and see if he knows someone. I use a guy up here in Tomball called DSJ Transmissions. Did a great job on rebuild and upgrade on my Expedition, but he's all the way up here.

had a new trans put in mine just last year. be ready. if you have it rebuilt, put a new converter in it too. my bill was $2800.
i used Ace Trans here in DFW. they mostly do race stuff. there are some tricks that can be done to the 4L80E. once its all done, get a tune on the truck PCM to bump line pressure w/ the coverter locked. i had a 1-2 shift kit installed and bumped the line pressure for lock up as i trashed the clutch in the converter. the increase in line pressure will help stop lock-up clutch slippage. mine likely died due to towing the enclosed at 80mph. the converter just cant handle that load.

Gary's is a 6.0 and they came with the 4l80E.

Gary, what part of Houston are you in? I knew the owner of an Aamco in Houston near the astrodome that was a good guy. What matters is the warranty and the guy who builds it.
If you need a rebuild let me know as I would look into a reman unit. Think about buying one from the dealer and finding a shop to put it in. Look up scoggins dickey or a GM online crate motor place to see what they will sell you a reman. I might be able to hook you up with a Reman unit from the group we used to get ours from.

Let me know, I owned at Aamco for 5 years.
