Anyone here tow with an 09-10 F150?

I'm thinking of replacing the Touareg with an F150 SuperCrew and I'm wondering how well it tows, particularly with the 4.6l 3V engine. (trying to convince myself I don't need to spend more for the 5.4L engine.)

Anyone know of a good deal on a use SuperCrew? (09-10 preferred)

I've driven an 09 F150 SuperCrew with 4.6L 2WD(rental). Its kind of a pig(not horrible) unloaded but gets 19-20 mixed from my experience. The 5.4L definitely has more guts but 15-16 mpg mixed unloaded. The 5.4L will tow a lot better, the 4.6L will be downshifting more.

    2009-2010 F Series

    4.6L 3V 292 hp (218 kW) and 320 lb·ft (433 N·m)

    5.4L 3V 320 hp (239 kW) and 390 lb·ft (529 N·m) ratings on e85 biofuel

I sometimes tow with a 99 Expedition with 260 hp 300 tq and it does just fine running 70 mph all day long with my heavy trailer and car on int.

Camaro, Mustang, doesn't matter to me, I'll race it.

Rob is probably right.....I'm biased. I've been towing with a diesel for 7 years.

    Hey Robert,

I tow with an 07 F-150 that has the 4.6 motor. I would suggest going with the 5.4. My truck pulls fine but struggles on hills (was more of an issue going to Hallett). The bigger motor would solve that issue.

From a mileage perspective, I typically get 15 mpg around town. The 5.4 should be about the same.

I also had to put on leaf spring helpers to balance the load better. Otherwise, good to go.

I'm driving a 2010 Ram 1500 as a company truck. I'm very impressed w/ its power. I would now consider it over a Chevy if I could buy a new truck.
It has the Hemi, but I'm unsure of the size.

When comparing trucks you must consider the rear diff gearing. Otherwise its apples and oranges. FMR

We've been using our '08 4.6L F-150 and it's been fine, but hills are definately noticed. It's got the base 3.55s and 6700# tow package.
Our car is at least 400# heavier than most everyone else and we've typically got the bed loaded down (that smoker ain't light) - still...the 5.4 has come to mind from time to time
