My Camaro has recently developed a nasty habit of idling around 1600-1800 rpm. It even accelerates from my desired mph just to reach the higher rpms. Have any of you run in to this problem before? I'm guessing a bad sensor somewhere.

Does it change if you turn the AC on and then off?
Sounds like an idle control motor. It sits on the side of the throttle body.

Typically it makes the car NOT want to idle at all. In other words, it fails with the idle closed, not open. A safety thing, I guess.
Here's a guy in Houston that has a whole throttle body for sale for $40

Kingwood for $35

Just make sure they have all the sensors and electronics. I have a bare TB for an LSx car ... just no electrics.
take the IAC valve off and clean it. it sticks off the driver side and has a cone shaped plunger in the center only visible when removed. they can get carboned up.
also ensure the T/B butterfly is closing all the way.
I have seen this a few times also. It gets dirty and won't close completely. I have to clean mine on my street car every once in a while with carb cleaner.Originally Posted by GlennCMC70

Trade it in for a Toyota.

Camaro, Mustang, doesn't matter to me, I'll race it.
If we put the lights back on the lemon, he could drive it. He is a 1/4th owner in it!Originally Posted by Rob Liebbe

Just pull the e-brake up a few clicks to compensate...
