The directors are wodking on a plan to contain the FR system. As it is visually identical to the S197 "stock" system, there is no way to make it illegal without pulling ABS from all cars, which would be BAD.

I'm going to test mule to help determine the adjustments needed for the system.

Patience is the key, but we are doing something...

Or rules....some may be considering a come back and need to know which parts to NOT order... Matt's out in the shop working out a way to put this FR system he has on my camaro! He thinks nobody would ever look! LOL!!! Wait, did I just let one of Mitch's cats out of the bag?

Without letting too much cat out of the bag, the FR500S ABS will still be around, as we can't easily distinquish it from the stock S197, or GT500 system. We certainly are NOT going to pull ABS from the rules. Too much history and rework for a BUNCH of cars if ABS goes away. If Matt wants to "play" with the FR500S system in his pre-2005 car (Mustang), he won't be the 1st in TX to do it. There is already a line forming... Adjustments will be made for it, but you will have to wait and see about that when the rules are published. The goal is small steps to parity with newer technology versus older tech.

Misty, I need your phone number(s). Been needing to talk to you about a few things. call me @281-414-1738 or email to [email protected]...

BTW what happened to your original ABS system??? I would be interested in experimenting with it in the 3 car...

the original 4 channel setup went bye bye a long time ago. Matt has installed a stock 3 channel system in the car and we had to change out the rear axle to get the correct sensor setup. We found that the ABS system will not work without certain "body control units" that were part of the stock instrument cluster and now that I have a painless harness which eliminated EVERYTHING stock not used, we don't have any of those control units. So the axle swap and ABS is more or less useless unless we find an electronics nerd to trick the ABS ECU into thinking those little black boxes are still there. Otherwise it won't power up or goes into ICE mode. Matt decided his time would be better served by figuring out a way to put the FR500 system into the camaro as it's a stand alone unit and about $12k cheaper than a Bosch unit. Z06 unit is pointless as it has stability control which is illegal since you have to use the full corvette harness to make it work and remember to turn it all off before the race. Goal is to have the FR500 unit in both cars (his first, mine second) regardless of what the rules state, but I am more interested in the track width changes if any. Mostly want to see if my $6k investment in wheels is still safe. If I can run 1/2" spacers, I suppose that is ok, but if the camaros get more than that, I'm not comfortable running a 1" spacer given the crappy hubs on the 4th gens which aren't hub centric. I might be able to have custom spacers made but then fenders become and issue too. Would have been nice to have the rules a month ago to get all this stuff in motion but as usual, it probably won't be till end of december.

Marshall, if you want a starting point on the weight penalties for the FR system...it should start at 400lbs. the 3500lb S197 cars are already out braking the 3100lb cars by over 100 feet if you watch the incar videos from Ohio. once you put that system in a 3100# fox, the S197 guys will be complaining and the GM guys will still be left out in the cold....so what is the point? Until the spec tire is named, any testing is useless. We know all the mustang guys in TX are looking at the system...start doing something for the GM folks please.

David, you would have the same issue we are having with the GM ABS unit. Probably not a good use of time. If we had a stock F-body with complete harness at our disposal, matt could probably make it work given he could figure out the signal voltages and sequences on the solenoids.

I'll try to give you a shout this weekend.

or #404 to be precise - and to think that some people thought my car # was just a guess.....I saw this one coming 3 years ago.

Marshall does not need the video from MidO....he saw it outside his window at ECR

Not all S197 guys...I'm pretty competitive by nature but fair is fair.

Misty - I'm running 1/2" spacers on stock SS wheels and am still nearly an inch shy of the current 75.5" max track width for AI. Unless your wheels have some crazy offset, you should be fine. From talking to Alan Blaine and others, suspension geometry becomes much more of an issue than fenders when running more than a 1/2" spacer. When you push the contact patch out that far past the kingpin axis apparently you end up with pretty some nasty kickback. Longer LCAs would fix it but like most things GM these days you either get an engineering degree and make your own or....
Just a data point for you....looking forward to seeing you back on track having fun soon

    Misty,
I should be testing at Cresson in late December with the FR500 system in my FOX. We WILL be making adjustments for the unit next year. As we gather more data on the effectiveness of the adjustments, we will determine if further adjustments are necessary.
