I attempted to de-wire my stock harness back at the beginning and even though it worked, I was plagued with electrical gremlins for several seasons and that culminated to me installing a Painless harness. I know that you don't have that option ultimately, but if I were you, as you stated above... Quite while you are ahead and it still runs properly...
