Michael's pretty little pony - good one.

How bad was the flight home Rob?

Not bad - 2 Percocets, 3 Ibuprofens, and an aisle seat next to my wife. Got home around 10 pm. Thanks for asking.

Now a Camry, that would be pretty sweet!

You figured it out... I painted the car as a giant Toyota "T" logo.

One more night, one more color... Should be 50/50 compliant.

Simple rules for painting your race car the first time:

1) Don't pick a metallic color the first time out
1a) Just stick with one, simple, regular, normal color.
2) Don't paint in the dark
3) Don't put the car WAAAYYY back in the corner

It will be interesting to see how the tape comes off tonight. Love or hate the exterior, since the interior didn't get painted 'cause of the cold, it will look stupid up close. Guess that gives me something to do prior to Hallett.

You can re-pait it at Hallett. Just rent one of the deals like DFL did.

Well, it's not maroon anymore.

I'm pretty sure you guys will be able to see it on track. Not super happy with the way the paint went down - ton of orange peel. But, since it was last hour due to the cold, I was happy to get it presentable. It will pass 50/50 ok but don't get too close a look.

Now I just need to get that window sticker laminated up...

LOL...10 years of dyno graphs pretty well tell a stock compression PI motor will make 245/280 with long tubes and no tune or underdrive pullies....i'd be more worried how he got that car to run without a stock instrument cluster in the car...you know, the one that requires computer tuning to remove it from the car...

You want to see what a PI motor makes that meets the rules on the dyno, go look at Gunter's dyno. It's spot on with what dyno results have shown since 1999 with no tune....even has all the check engine lights to prove it! I bet you don't have a check engine light do you?! Was down at the shop last night and all day today to get the AI car dusted off and put back together for MSR-C. Michael helped out the entire time... Thanks!!

1. Wash off engine since it's been sitting in the corner for 9 months (check)
2. Install engine and trans (check)
3. Repaint and install pedal box and brake booster (check)
4. Change up bump stack to keep last years failure from happening again... (check)
5. Started to install new "painful" Painless harness (half check)
6. Install oil cooler and radiator (check)

Still to go in the next few weeks:
1. Accusump plumbing
2. Fire bottle plumbing
3. New switch panel
4. Rewire ABS
5. Re-toe car
6. Install battery
7. Cross fingers it will start after being brain dead for almost a year...

I was looking for it this morning. Hurt my big toe last night in soccer. At 2:30 am I decided to look through the tool box to find a drill bit to put a hole in the bottom of my toe nail. Smallest bit wouldn't work, neither would sheet metal screws, or a razor blade. Finally found a 1/2 inch hole saw for wood with the point on the end. Slowly made a hole in the nail and then a thumb tack broke through to realize the blood.

I've done that before. We are moving this weekend so everything is boxed up and I couldn't find the lighter. I just used my fingers to turn the drill bit. We need to just spend more time in the race cars... where it's safe.

I have an MRI-Arthrogram scheduled next Friday to confim condition of rotator cuff and ligaments. I would schedule any surgery after Hallett but it would kill racing for the balance of 2010.

We need to just spend more time in the race cars... where it's safe.

I have an MRI-Arthrogram scheduled next Friday to confim condition of rotator cuff and ligaments. I would schedule any surgery after Hallett but it would kill racing for the balance of 2010.

I'm REALLY looking forward to 3 months in a sling and months and months of rehab.
Been there, done that...still have the sling. Definately one of my longer rehabs...shoulders are damn complicated mechanisms. If you need recomendations on an ortho let me know...my Dr probably has tons of time on his hands since I stopped playing hockey

Hmmm-sorry to hear about that. Bones exploding into pieces doesn't sound good. First thing is to tape it up and get back in the game, or put some ice on it. I'm thinking some nice rainbow colored duct tape and a big bottle of ol Vic Odin would get you home. Otherwise, has anyone seen my Zawzallllllllllllllllllllllllllll???????? Dunno, Frank, is bone tougher to cut than most metal? I wouldn't want to dull up a blade or anything.

That's why I caution people about riding my overpowerd Z 50 Honda. I've seen plenty of adults lay it down and come up bleeding. The last was my dad from popping a wheelie at the Motorplex after my 65 Vette ran in the 12's.

Goes back to my adage that there are more injuries in the pits than out on the track. I mean who hasn't drawn blood while working on their car?

If you have an opportunity to see a shuttle launch, you should take advantage while you can. There are only four shuttle launches left. I saw the last planned night launch.

While I've not been fortunate enough to watch a launch, I have seen a landing @ either Vandenburg or Edwards AFB (can't recall) when I was in the CAP, circa 1981 or so. Quite an event to see live.

I highly recommend going to the Houston Space Center - we took the kids when they were young. Well worth the time and money, IMO.

We can only hope the current administration sees the value of space travel, and funds a replacement system instead of bailing out defunct banks/business that should succumb to capitalism.

Car's closer. All the bodywork is back on and Michael is finishing up the front stretcher bars for the fenders. ABS is 60% rewired and the "painful" harness has calmed itself down. If all I end up having to "f with" on it was to lengthen eight wires, I'll be pretty pleased.

Have one more summit order coming with another 90-degree AN10 for the accusump and some roll cage padding.

Taking next weekend off since Michael is running LeMons, but should hear the beast fire after a long slumber in less than two weeks.

I mounted Al's old 888's on two of my rims, so it won't be a barn burner at Cresson, but I'll give it my best.

Chris Marvel on scooter. Fall down, go boom. Tibia exploded into many pieces.

Little update on Chris. He had surgery on Thursday that installed an external fixture with taps down to the bones to secure things in the right place. This was a temporary thing while they waited for the swelling to go down enough so they could do the main surgery.

Swelling was down enough by Sunday that they were able to put the tibia back together in an approx. five hour surgery. That apparenty went well.

In the same surgery, they also put a screw into his clavical to help with his separated shoulder. That makes the reality of crutches kind of grim.

They have hooked his leg into a motorized fixture that slowly exercises his knee joint over a range of motion. Sounds like fun.

He's still trapped in Florida. No word on when he'll be able to make it back to Houston.

As I understand, and have experienced it with an ACL replacement, really helps with maintaining range of motion. And gives you something to do.

Spent a very productive day with the Mosty Bros, Clifton, MFW and Kyri working on BFP and I wanted to thank everyone for taking the time on Saturday to help get the car back in shape.

Massive gratitude to Michael and Marshall (and thank your Dad again for me please!) for their generosity!!

I was pretty sure that the first time MFW worked on my car it would be with a plasma cutter in one had and a big grin on his face, but the help with the tranny was much appreciated!

It's not official but safe to say we finally are under #3500 (yeah, pathetic but I feel better just getting to this point).
Oh, and we have a fourth gear...whooop!

Washed ECR grime off the car yesterday. Fixed the alignment issue and installed a new fuel tank w/ Mitch and Mike last weekend and also changed the oil and diff fluid last Sunday. Today? Gutted the rear half of the trailer in prep for a remodle. Patched a few holes in the roof of it too.
Off to the dyno next Sat at Alamo.

Yanked the blowed up motor and poured the requisite trans fluid all over the garage floor. Hoping to have it ready to run at TWS. Strangely though, the last two trips to College Station resulted in rather catastrophic oil pump failures. I'm hoping to kick that monkey off my back this year.

Mine fired for the first time since the end of April '09 yesterday... but only for about 5 seconds until enough oil reached the place where the oil filter should have been... knew I was missing something on the checklist.

After pumping at least three of the 12 quarts onto the floor, I shut it down, installed the oil filter and then warmed it up with no big issues.

One more weekend and it should be good to go in "X" trim for MSR-C.

This car was HURT!
The hood isn't that great and the fender are only 90% there (Pass side front part is missing, drivers side bottom rear part is missing). The passenger door SKIN might be salvagable as it's already starting to separate from the door rest of the door. If it was all good, you know I would have given the door to Dave F whether he wanted it or not!
The roof has a split at the b-pillar, but if you're only looking for the center section to cover a t-top car it may be ok. I'll see if I can take it off before the wrecker comes. Already got my 'warning' letter from the home owners ass since it's been there a whole 10 days now

If anyone wants it and can come get it pronto let me know.

I removed the LT1 for Knocker, T56 for Laura's 91 RS, steering column and pedals went to a neighbor, front bumper steel was claimed by Cody, the ne taillight claimed by Costas.
What else y'all want? The gas cap door may still be ok

*edit* If you mean anything that is straight you want, the front swaybay, RF strut/spindle and lca may be ok. Brakes and hub are probably toast (been sitting in their yard for ~ 2 years). Knowing the severity of the impact(s), use at your own risk. *edit*

Slippery slope. Have to be careful that you don't build something that has the intent to cause damage as thats illegal. Same reason you can't create a trap that will hurt a would be thief. Such as I guy I know in high school that put hooks and razor blades on the back of his stereo in his camaro. When it was broken into they didn't get the radio but blood was everywhere.
There is also a CSI episode like this where a guy loaded his mailbox with concrete. Kids came by with a bat in a car, bat broke, hit the driver in the head of a convertible, and ran into a tree killing them. Of course its TV but homeowner was arrested for murder.

Yeah, we have discussed after the last one and this one about putting in a large pipe to anchor the thing, but were advised both times that if someone hits it and dies/gets hurt then we can be sued. Not something we want to risk...there were discussions of putting a fake, bloody arm in the middle so the next person to hit it thinks they took someone out...

Yeah, we have discussed after the last one and this one about putting in a large pipe to anchor the thing, but were advised both times that if someone hits it and dies/gets hurt then we can be sued.I wonder if this is true or an urban legend. Businesses use bollards all the time for protection against vehicles:

http://www.acmesteelfab.com/images/bank_bollards.jpg

And I see folks incorporate boulders in their landscaping all the time to do the same thing:

http://ovnblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/shelfroad.gif

These are being used to prevent parking on private property along a public road.

The problem is, you have had it hit before. If you did something now it may look bad.

Though if you happen to work in the oil field or had a friend with some stout pipe laying around and you just put it in to save cash you could get by with that. You would have to have a good lawyer for it to work though I am sure.

So you're going to cut down the trees before they get too big?

Next car is lowered and the contractor uses an epoxy based mortar and the entire mailbox comes through the windshield?

They hit the V and submarine under it?

They hit the house and it collapses on them?

They spear the corner of the trailer with the race car sitting on it?

They stop to take a leak and get struck by lightning?

Not picking on you but curious why everyone is nervous about building a mailbox to better withstand a vehicle strike when multiple risks already exist for someone breaking the law.

Not an attorney but I've had to talk to too many of them.

Mrs. Crumpacker
06-17-2010, 07:33 AM
We have actually asked the same questions, and we were told that because the mailbox has already been taken out, modifying it's structure in that way could open up the possibility for a lawsuit. Can someone hit the trees head on, die, and the family sues us? Sure, but we have a better shot at winning then if they hit the mailbox with extra reinforcements, die, and sue us. This is just what we have been told by several different parties.

We can get sued for anything b/c someone hurts themselves on our property. Just like the dumb cable guy who jumped our fence and got bit by our dog. We told him to let us know when he needed back there and we would bring the animals in, but he didn't listen. He could have sued us b/c he was an idiot, but luckily for us he realized his stupidity and didn't...

The main difference "I think" is the obvious danger vs hidden danger. Hitting a brick mailbox is as dangerous as it appears on paper, the game changes once you hide a steel pipe inside it - something not normally found in the center of a brick mailbox. Also you should consider the person who is not at fault for the loss of control of the car they are driving and is knocked into the hidden pole.

Sam has it right, dont do it. But, why not take out a large insurance policy on the box.

Those items are typical "concrete" building materials. I was gonna say to use cinder blocks on the inside and fill w/ concrete. Add some rebar to keep the "chunk" together.
I wonder if there is a building code for these.

Sooooo, I went up to the TWS Open Track day for some CB practice (but in the wrong direction as Jason Love pointed out) to learn how to drive the d*mn Camaro.

Well, it seems that the Camaro or I am dumb, because I still can't drive the d*mn thing.

"Loose is fast", right?

Well what is "don't dare trail brake the tinyist bit too much or you're going to spin going into 4 and not get the clutch in quickly enough and stall the motor and it won't restart because of a known issue with LS1s due to removing an LED from the stock cluster and you need to add a resistor so that the car will charge properly"?

So what is that? Is that still fast?

Also, I'm driving home and pulled over to check the straps on the Camaro. Seems I have an issue with race cars falling off trailers.

In any case, I'm pulling back onto Highway 6 South and a Cadillac CTS-V is in the median making a left (Hwy 6 is not controlled access at this point).

So I see the Caddy and think Mitch. The Caddy passes me and then slows down and rolls down the tinted window. The driver guns it a couple of times and I think that he looks like Sam.

Of course, since I'm coming from the track, every car and every driver looks like someone I know, right?

Then I find this thread (http://www.aicmctexas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3598&highlight=harris).

Our ridgeback would literally singe her coat laying in front of the fire place. Heat tolerant is an understatement!

They need lots of exercise and require attention. They get bored easily and then mischevious if left unattended for periods of time.

My family and I went to Scarborough Fair one Saturday afternoon. The dog destroyed all the house plants and ate the kitchen lenoleum all in a single afternoon. True story.

They are a single family dog. Once they attach, they just won't adapt to a new family. And they get really attached to a single family member. While tolerating everyone, they will defend their "owner" ... violently.

They are great if you have young, teenage girls living at home. I was able to fend off many a frog that came knocking at the door.

possible, but less likely. Valve cover gaskets are pulled/installed much more often, and the cheap cork ones crumble when they get old.

Adam Ginsberg

Yep - seen that happen too many times. Ever since seeing that kind of damage, I've always removed that little spacer from ALL of my VC gaskets prior to installation.

Fel-Pro puts them on all their SBF VC gasket sets (possibly others as well), but not on the pan gasket IIRC. And, as mentioned, the VC's get removed much more frequently than the pan.

It also means the oil pickup screen lets allot more through than we'd like!

That really sucks. Hope you get it back on the road again soon.

First time out with CMC17 in '03, the same thing happened on Friday practice. Spent all night replacing the oil pump with the motor still in the car. First practice session out Saturday - lost oil pressure again. Obviously there was another VC ring still in the oil pan. My bad for not replacing the pickup tube and making sure the pan was clear of all FOD.
